Beware in these uncertain times

A local community website in Truro recently posted a warning about Photo Voltaic Panels (PV Panels).

Unsolicited letters are being sent out apparently asking if owners would want to sell their PV panels.

Whist this could be a genuine and responsible company you must ensure if you decide to take up such an offer that you consult your solicitor before entering into any agreement.

There are several reasons why this is the case especially the need to make sure that if you do lease your roof out and sell the panels that any lease complies with the UK Finance approved lease.

If this is not the case then you could be running the risk of making your property unmortgageable in the future.

DowlingDodd have over the last few years come across several cases when carrying out HomeBuyers Surveys and Valuations where owners have had great difficulty in selling their properties because the lease for the roof was not acceptable to mortgage lenders.

In these difficult times what may at first appear to be welcome windfall could end up costing you later if you need to sell your home and it could affect the value. So, make sure you take professional advise and talk to your solicitor first.
